Meet The founder

Netanya A. Lane, Founder & Designer

I've journeyed through various jobs and companies, seeking fulfillment but never quite finding it. Finally, I realized it was time for a change – time to turn my passion into a purpose. Returning to my roots, I found solace in what I loved most: Fashion!

As a child, immersed in Saturday morning Disney shows, the theme song of "That's So Raven" ignited a spark within me. Inspired by Raven's dreams of becoming a fashion designer and model, I too yearned to create and strut my designs on the runway. Taking charge of my wardrobe, I unleashed my creativity and earned admiration for my unique style. My parents did not come from a long line of money so when new trends or emerging brands came out I was not able to participate because they were expensive; but I wanted to be as stylish as any of the other students in my class. My mother took me shopping at a thrift store. I got these bell bottom khakis and I loved them. I made a whole outfit and was excited to wear them to school. I did not know thrift shopping was at the bottom of the barrel. Well, I learned once I told the other students where I got them from. They laughed at me. I felt terrible.

Alas, my love of fashion did not end there. Guided by my mother's encouragement, I delved into the world of sewing and modeling. I created outfits for my Bratz and sketched on my Nintendo DS. My mother signed me up for my first runway model gig at the Euclid Mall years ago when I was 7 or 8 years old. I was wearing a blue and white gown and I felt like a princess. I got my make-up done, hair done, and dressed ready to walk. I heard cameras and people talking. I felt my heart beating and I felt extremely nervous. When I stepped out, I was shocked by all the cameras and people that I did not smile once but my friend next to me did. I was embarrassed. Despite initial hesitations, I embraced the spotlight, honing my walk, my gaze, all while remaining rooted in my love for fashion. With my father's guidance, I even crafted a business plan at the tender age of seven, learning the value of independence and self-determination. Yet, the true catalyst for my venture emerged from personal experiences and social media influences.

Fashion is not just art to me but it can communicate and express individuality. I can let people know the type of person I am just from my outfits. Once I entered Middle School, my father gave me hand-me-downs after my mom accidentally gave away my new clothes I got for Christmas from family members. All through my middle school years I wore Fubu, Baby Phat, and other brands from the Early 2000s and a bit of clothing from Burlington. Just knowing all my clothing was early 2000’s fashion brands and more affordable clothing. When it was announced people voted for best dressed, I figured I wasn’t going to win. I recycled my outfits and tried to find multiple uses for each piece. When it was announced I won; I was shocked and confused to find out I was awarded with the best dressed award, which I didn’t know was an award to work towards. I got a round of applause and praise from the faculty and peers. One person screamed out that “she should not have won because she didn’t wear a new outfit everyday.” I felt shame knowing I didn’t deserve it because I wasn’t working towards this award. I was just doing what I enjoyed, which was creating outfits. I learned I have a creative skill to make clothing look great just by putting items together no matter the year they came from. I declared my ambition to become a fashion designer/model to my parents and they supported me in every way they could.

A transformative trip to Los Angeles with my fiancé stirred my imagination. Amidst the glamor of Rodeo Drive, I envisioned a design – a vision of elegance and confidence, a fusion of style and substance. It was a dress made out of satin with the sun reflecting off of her. People can’t help but to stare. Her cotton mesh shoul flowing in the breeze. She walks confidently in heels and head held high. Back home, fueled by this inspiration, I began sketching fervently, unable to quell the creative fire within me. Armed with ideas and determination, I embarked on the journey of starting my own company – thus, Angel Luxe Co. was born.
